CASE OF THE MONTH | BANGALORE SKULL BASE INSTITUTE | EPISODE 6
Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao and Team Bangalore Skull Base and Cochlear Institute successfully performed Asia Pacific’s First Osia Implant in a Skull Base Surgery for massive Petrous bone Epidermoid. The patient from Iraq presented with history of previous surgery with a 10 year old history of HB grade VI facial nerve paralysis and hearing loss. The tumor was completely excised via a Transcochlear Subtotal Petrosectomy. This was combined with facial plastic work by Dr. Vishwas KV that included upper lid loading, lateral canthal canthopexy and facial microfat grafting. After the combined procedures, an Osia Implant was placed on the ipsilateral side to restore hearing. At 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐤𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 and 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 we offer a multidisciplinary and multicentric approach to complex skull base pathologies. We are one of the largest Skull Base programmes in India performing more than 150 skull base cases in a year and catering to over 15 countries apart from drawing patients from all over India. www.bsbi.info www.bciinstitue.net

Suffering from Vertigo ? Listen to Dr Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao's talk on Vertigo
Vertigo is the sense of the world spinning, rotating, or rocking that is experienced even when a person is holding perfectly still. Some patients use the term vertigo interchangeably with dizziness to describe a variety of symptoms, ranging from balance disorders and difficulty with walking to motion sickness or lightheadedness. However, most health care professionals consider vertigo to be a specific complaint that involves the balance centers of the inner ear and the brain. To understand vertigo, it's helpful to understand the anatomy of the ear. Sound waves travel through the outer ear canal until they reach the eardrum. From there, sound turns into vibrations, which transmits in the middle ear via three small bones -- the incus, the malleus, and the stapes -- to the cochlea and finally to the vestibular nerve, which carries the signal to our brain that interprets those nerve impulses as sound.
